Laurel flower is a soft herbaceous perennial shrub native to Asia, Europe and North America. Laurel flowers are found in the wild in the uplands of the Appalachian Mountains extending from southern New York, through New England and into southeastern Canada.
Laurel flowers are considered the symbol of longevity, wisdom, strength and joy. In a wedding ceremony, bridegroom puts the crown on bride’s head, which is a symbol of blessing her with happiness, health and longevity. The laurel wreath was also used in Ancient Greece to crown the winners in athletic games. Nowadays, laurel wreaths are used as a symbol of victory, glory and honor.
