Spirea is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rosaceae. The genus comprises about 50 species of deciduous shrubs and small trees, commonly known as false spireas or spirea. This group of plants originates in north temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. They are primarily native to Europe, Asia and North America.
The Spirea genus of plants consists of approximately 150 species, which are commonly referred to as flowering ashes, spireas or by their earlier names, Spiraea and Chaenomeles.
